Can You Tell Me About Your Pocket Watch Brands?
We are authorized dealers of  Seiko, Pulsar, Colibri, and Belair brand Pocket Watches.  We feel that all of our brands are backed by high standards and fine workmanship.  Each are backed by a company guarantee, and we are proud to include a full service watch repair center on site.

Since 1881 Seiko has manufactured and assembled watches at their corporate headquarters located in Japan.  Known for their accuracy Seiko has been the official timekeepers for the Olimpic Games and the FIFA World Cup.  Seiko watches always have a interesting design, but are also built to extremely tough standards for material quality and durability.  With a warranty of 3 years from the date of purchase consumers know they are getting a quality timepiece from the start.

Pulsar watches are manufactured by Seiko and use the same service centers throughout he world.  Including a 3 year warranty Pulsar watches are built to very high quality standards.

All Belair/Hutchinson Label watches have been assembled in the USA from Swiss watch parts at the family owned and operated watch factory in Lakewood, NJ since 1946.  Elegantly packaged, Belair watches are top of the line timepieces built to last with strong durable cases built from stainless steel.  Factory parts are rigorously checked for consistent quality and watches include a 3 year factory warranty.

The Colibri Corporation in Rhode Island imports all of their pocket watches from Switzerland where parts are manufactured and assembled.  Certain watches use Japan movements, which help lower the consumer costs.  Colibri has long-term relationships (20 or more years) with several watch manufacturing companies in Switzerland.  In business since 1928 Colibri offers a complete line of handsome men's jewelry, stylish writing instruments, beautifully crafted traditional and contemporary style pocket watches and executive gifts.  Colibri offers a full 1 year factory warranty for its watches and Hutchinson Jewelers will extend the warranty to 3 years at no additional cost.

Should I Get a Mechanical Movement or Quartz in My Pocket Watch?

First of all you have made an excellent decision to purchase a pocket watch.  Whether a gift, or a personal favorite pocket watches can be passed down from generation to generation and even regarded as a family heirloom.  In years past pocket watches were a symbol of social standing, but now days pocket watches are an excellent gift for one who has reached a milestone in their life.  Lets see what the differences are between a mechanical and quartz movement and which one would work best for your situation.

Quartz movements run on battery and are more accurate than mechanical movements.  These movements are also vulnerable to magnetic fields.  In other words, you wouldn’t want to attach a strong magnet to your battery for the fun of it.  I wouldn’t recommend that for any watch.  There is no cleaning or winding needed with quartz movements since they run on battery.  Actually if a quartz movement breaks it is cheaper just to replace the movement than to try to fix the movement.  The major benefits are easy maintenance, accuracy, and their relatively cheap.

Mechanical movements run on a mainspring, which is unwound evenly to power the watch.  Most will need to be wound once a day while some can last 8-10 days.

These types of watches will need to be cleaned every 3-7 years, and can last a lifetime if they are properly maintained.  With all the tiny moving parts the mechanical watches are usually more expensive than quartz watches.  With all the moving parts and decorative jewel cases available for mechanical watches it is no surprise how impressive these watches are to show off to friends and family.

Quartz and Mechanical movements both have their advantages and disadvantages.  Hopefully this information can help you make a more informed decision.
